Behold, two of Glitter Brains’ favorite things at once: Beyonce and dance choreography. 😍
The choreography is phenomenal. It’s intricate and sharp, yet has somehow has slow moments of relaxation laced in — and it all works together to create the kind of piece every dancer wants to learn (if, you know, hip hop is their fancy). Watch out for the floor work at 30 seconds. It’s to die for.
Whenever I come home to visit my mom, she has a smorgasboard of goodies waiting for me. This awesome patterned dress is one of those goodies — can you believe she thrifted this for only $10? I like to think … Continue reading ootd #22
Here is an outfit I wore a few weeks ago, but first, can I say? I love the browns and yellows and greens of the foliage! The colors are so vivid. I had a group presentation on Sexuality in the … Continue reading ootd #21
I’ve posted a few times with tips for natural hair, so I thought I’d go a step further and give you guys the Glitter Brains Guide To Going Natural. Think of this as a crash course in natural hair care. I realize that I still have much more to learn when it comes to natural hair care, but I’ve picked up some valuable tips over the last couple of years that I want to share with you guys. I hope this will be helpful to those of you who may be interested in going natural and have no idea where or how to start your transition. These are the basics, but most of all please remember that this is just a guide! What may work wonders for my hair may not yield the results you’re looking for. I encourage you to experiment until you find the right care routine for your hair.
You can’t see because the bottom of the picture is cut off, but I wore a pair of black leg warmers and the low black heels I got from my October thrift haul to complete my look. The tights and leg … Continue reading ootd #20
Elephants in circus acts, lobotomies on the mentally ill, open heart surgeries performed on infants: It’s easy for people to look back on the past and call the collective actions of a society barbaric. Hindsight is everything, as they say, but what about when it comes to critiquing the here and now?
“Blackfish,” a documentary released earlier this year, seeks to do just that. Director Gabriela Cowperthwaite delves into the seemingly family-friendly enterprise of SeaWorld and its celebrated whale shows, and what she finds is a shockingly dark realm of misinformation and cover-ups.
I like this outfit because it’s not dressy; it’s not shabby, and it will work for pretty much any situation. A blouse buttoned to the collar and a neat skirt might normally give off a severe vibe, but I think the worn, striped material of the shirt and the slit in the skirt really relaxes the outfit. This look could work on a lunch date, or to go shopping in, or for class….the possibilities are endless really. The best part? It’s entirely thrifted!

Because my bones have been craving a dance class lately, here are some choreography videos to “Royals” by Lorde. I instantly liked this song, and not only because it’s insanely catchy. I knew that this is what would come of it in the dance world, because it’s got a sound that could go with a lot of different styles of dance. These videos I’m obsessed with are mostly contemporary or hip-hop, go figure.
This one is my favorite! YouTube commenters seem to love the girl in the pink shorts, but I’m championing the girl to her right in the light pink/white top. I feel like even though she stumbles on choreography at one point, there is a different quality to her moves that I really like.
First: “Coats and Jackets and Sweaters — Oh my!”
I’m not one of those girls who is #FallingForFall or whatever because it means scarves and pumpkin spice lattes and boots. I only think of fall in terms of being “pre-winter.” I am that girl in the corner who is upset she can’t survive all year in tank tops and shorts. However, since weather dictates….These are the least offensive coats I could find.
The Jealous Lover jacket by Obey is my favorite, by far. A bomber with a hood????? YES. PLEASE. & Special shout out to H&M for that classy outerwear.
I make it a point to seek out all of the most strange, interesting and delightful things you can find on dear old tumblr. That’s kind of the only reason I have one, which is why I was immediately enthralled when the sculptures of Argentinian artist Camila Valdez popped up on my dashboard. Amidst funky street style photos of “black fashion” and things like this, it was still hard to miss a pair of voluptuous legs popping out from a teacup/a decadent doughnut/a bag of fluffy popcorn.
